Eastern Michigan University's Independent Learning program allows students to acquire knowledge and earn academic credit without classroom attendance. These courses are intended for students who are comfortable learning independently. Self-discipline is essential to success.

Independent Learning courses offer you:
  • Flexible enrollment
  • Learning at your own pace
  • No commuting or parking
  • Coursework submissions via e-mail, fax or U.S. mail

Study guides and videotapes/DVDs are provided. Textbooks are available for purchase from area and online book retailers. Students work through a course pack and submit assignments to the Distance Education Office. Assignments may be submitted via email, fax, U.S. mail or hand-delivered. The assignments are logged and forwarded to the instructor for grading. The graded assignment is returned to the Distance Education Office where the grade is recorded and the assignment is sent back to the student.

Most courses require a proctored final exam.
